Fast clouds glide like a caress between the rough ridges of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park at sunset.
It was August 2016 and I was in Campo Imperatore plateau in Abruzzo, Italy. On the evening of the 24th – the date on which I took this photo – I was sleeping blissfully in my camper van which, in the middle of the night, began to wobble and sway and did so for an interminable time. Half asleep, I got out of bed and looked around but everything seemed ok, so I went back to sleep without understanding what was happening.
The next morning I began to receive several messages on my cell phone: it was the beginning of a tragedy – a devastating earthquake – the aftermath of which, unfortunately, are still evident in a vast area of the Central Apennines.
